Trial Divisions

 

Circuit Court Division

The Circuit Court Division of the State’s Attorney’s Office prosecutes felony cases, jury trial prayers and appeals from the District Court. Felony cases include rape, murder, robbery, drug dealing and major thefts. In 2019, there were over 250 cases handled in the Circuit Court.

 

District Court Division

The District Court Division of the State’s Attorney’s Office prosecutes criminal and traffic cases. The prosecutors handle cases involving matter such as: assaults, thefts, disorderly conduct, drunk driving, violations of protective orders and other misdemeanor offenses. In addition, the District Court Division prosecutes all must appear (i.e. serious) traffic offenses, including driving on a suspended license and driving without a license.

 

Juvenile Division

The juvenile division reviews all cases involving offenders under the age of 18, and files charges in Circuit Court. The prosecutor and Department of Juvenile Services work together to satisfy victims, protect the community and redirect juveniles onto positive paths.
